We concluded we should return earlier in the fall some day, after school has started, during Wed - Fri, when more businesses and restaurants may still be open, enjoying the autumn, but avoiding the weekend crowds. Its ideal for people who have their own boats or like to kayak, which is not us. You can tell in the summer Bayfield hums and this hotel does a great business. Our waitress a great server and very informative about the area. Breakfast in their restaurant was very good. The folks on the front desk were very friendly and helpful.
The visitors center up the hill was open too. However quite a few of the shops were still open including the coffee shop and the little grocery store. Many businesses were shut down for the season, especially restaurants. We could see Lake Superior out of our room's window, and the charming downtown and docks were out the front door and just around the corner.
Good well maintained basic room in a great location during the off-season.
